Born into a family of accountants, Marissa thought she’d be the one to break the mold. But when push came to shove, her latent business DNA kicked in, and she ended up earning a bachelor’s and master’s in accounting from Arizona State.

These days, it’s her brother—the only tax accountant in her family of auditors—who’s the “black sheep” of the family. Like her parents, Marissa relishes tackling audit puzzles and problems, and has discovered a talent for teaching new auditors the ropes.

A Phoenix transplant by way of Charlotte, North Carolina, Marissa and her husband—along with their infant son—love the Pacific Northwest’s year-round climate for hiking the Gorge and pedaling through their neighborhood. Wired to win—she was once a competitive ballroom dancer—Marissa balances fierce games of Settlers of Catan with restorative sessions of yoga.
