A master conductor of cross-border tax issues, may we present Masataka Yamaguchi.
Not only does this moon-lighting musician keep all of his instruments (violin, keyboard, and guitar!) in tune, but Masataka “Masa,” is a “rock star” when it comes to providing finely-tuned cross-border tax planning strategies to our clients.
A shareholder who specializes in international tax, Masa advises on structuring new businesses and investments for both US inbound and outbound operations, cross-border transactions, and earnings repatriations. His expertise includes US anti-deferral regimes applicable to certain foreign corporations as well as foreign trusts. He also serves his clients in the area of foreign tax credit planning. His client-base includes individuals, especially those involved in foreign corporations and trusts with international estate planning needs.
No surprise here, Masa is internationally well-traveled too. Born in Tokyo, he began his career as a tax professional in California, primarily serving Japanese businesses with some form of US operations or exposures. Next, he called British Columbia home, working for eight years in the cross-border environment for both businesses and individual clients. From there he joined a small firm in Vancouver, WA before we lulled him to Perkins & Co. No stranger to Portland, he holds a Bachelor of Arts from Chuo University and a Bachelor of Science from Portland State University.
Along with playing contemporary and jazz music during his spare time, you can find Masa skiing or watching American sports – especially our very own Portland Trail Blazers. An avid fan since his PSU days, Masa even listened to their games on a portable radio all the way in Tokyo!
