Practical. Logical. Musical. Katie may be Portland’s only bassoon-playing CPA.

Though Katie graduated from college in Kentucky with a music degree, she had an inkling she might be an accountant one day. A lifelong puzzle lover and problem solver, Katie took a career aptitude test in high school that suggested her destiny lay in debits and credits. When she realized that teaching bassoon wasn’t going to pay the bills and that her dream job, playing in the orchestra pit on Broadway, might not come to pass, she took a chance on accounting. To her surprise, she not only had a knack for it, but she loved the logic and systems inherent in tax accounting.

A shareholder at Perkins, Katie provides an array of tax compliance and advisory services to closely-held businesses and their owners. To relax in her off hours, Katie enjoys trawling online genealogy sites. Her most amusing find? Discovering married ancestors with perfectly matched last names – Nail and Hammer, for example. Ever disciplined, Katie holds a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo. She’s also an avid birder who has parlayed her musical skills to become familiar with the songs of many local bird species. With her keen ear and disciplined mind, Katie is an accountant who can really listen and deliver incisive tax and accounting solutions.
