Before she “stumbled” into a cost accounting class in college, Shawna planned to be a math teacher. Turns out that the business world captured her fancy – and she didn’t have to abandon the instructor within. At Perkins, Shawna’s aptitude for accounting and penchant for teaching make her a natural at helping clients in the real estate and food and beverage industries understand the ins and outs of complex tax scenarios.
On the home front, Shawna might not be teaching her young son the finer details of accounting, but she’s definitely learned a thing or two from him. He opened the world of zip lining to her – something she thought she’d never do – and he hopes to expand her horizons with a trip to Australia – another adventure that was never on her radar. Bonding with coworkers on the company kickball team, training for half marathons, and painting masterpieces at local artist bars are more her speed, but Shawna proves that even the best teachers are fantastic learners, too.
