A celebrated and passionate community service leader, Roy serves on more nonprofit committees and boards than we can count!
Born and raised in South Africa, this Ivy Leaguer graduated with high honors from Princeton University in classics. Embarking on an illustrious accounting career after earning his masters degree in accounting from UCLA, Roy spent eight years at a national public accounting firm in Portland prior to joining Perkins in 1987.
We all need a healthy distraction from the long hours that tax work requires. Roy finds his calm in the arts, theater, and opera – he is an avid supporter of classical and baroque music. When he first came to Perkins, Roy was a masters level swimmer and almost seized the chance to compete in the Olympics for South Africa in the early 70’s, but a sudden heart ailment sent him to OHSU’s heart transplant team in 1999. Now, of course, Roy is a zealous supporter of Donate Life Northwest. Another healthy distraction for Roy? Bridge. Who’s up for a game?
Roy has been with the firm since 1987. He leads our Nonprofit Practice Group while being active in our Legacy Planning Practice Group. He is a seasoned tax professional specializing in income, estate, retirement and charitable tax planning for wealthy individuals and families. He also has significant experience with succession, transaction and entity planning for family-owned businesses and is the firm’s representative for the Family Firm Institute. Roy is a celebrated community service leader and volunteers countless hours for several nonprofit organizations and private foundations.
